Hiroshi “Hiro The Chili Pepper Man” Furushima of Lihu‘e died April 18, 2009, at home at age 83. Born April 6, 1926, in Makaweli, he was retired from Olokele Sugar Co.
He was preceded in death by parents Manzo and Tome; and brothers Shigeji, Takeo “Richard,” Tsutomu “Slim,” Shinichi “Sam” Furushima.
He is survived by wife Bessie (Nishikawa) Furushima of Lihu‘e, daughter Lorene (Michael) Park of Mililani, grandson Gavin Park, granddaughter Erin Park, sisters-in-law Evelyn Furushima and Matsue Furushima of Honolulu, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service at 11 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers should be omitted.

John Jay Camelo of Puhi died April 16, 2009, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital at age 54. Born May 17, 1954, in Puhi he retired as a heavy equipment operator from the county Department of Water.
He is survived by sons Ben (Melisse) Camelo of Kalaheo, Lambert Camelo of Puhi and Clifton (Pua) Camelo of Lihu‘e; one grandson; five granddaughters; brothers Pancho (Debbra) Camelo of Kapa‘a and Dominic Camelo of O‘ahu; sisters Gloria (Leroy) Martin of O‘ahu, Cindy Camelo of Kapa‘a, Stella (Kookie) Amulation of Hanapepe, Priscilla (Richard) Aki of Lihu‘e, Norma (Timmy) Ragragola of Kekaha, Eva Camelo of Hilo and Donna Camelo of Kapa‘a; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at Niumalu Park pavilion.

Eldefonso “Pancho” Sanchez Abalos Sr. of Makaweli died April 22, 2009, at home at age 81. Born Jan. 23, 2009, in the Philippines, he was an irrigator and field laborer for Gay and Robinson.
He was preceded in death by father Pantaleon Abalos Sr., mother Cipen Sanchez Abalos, brother Dominador Abalos Sr. and sister Germana Corpuz.
He is survived by brother Pataleon Abalos Jr.; children Betty Ann (Gus) Carbullido of California, Cynthia (Derek) Sone of Puhi, Derwin Abalos of Puhi, Eldefonso Abalos Jr. of California, Janean (Raymond) Blouin of ‘Ele‘ele, Devita (Michael) Bernaldes of Nevada and ElyLeo Abalos of Nevada; nine grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at Borthwick Mortuary; service 11-noon.

Haruo Sato
Haruo Sato died April 18, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 80. Born March 2, 1929, in Lihu‘e, he was a supervisor for Grove Farm and McBryde Sugar Plantations.
He was preceded in death by parents Ikutaro and Tsune Sato; brothers Tsutao, Shigeru and Isamu Sato; and sisters Asako Tomita, Matsuko Sakamoto and Toshiko Sato.
He is survived by spouse Dora O. Sato; son Dana K. Sato of Hilo; daughter Sara J. Sato of Honolulu; brother Toshiyuki (Ellen) Sato of Pearl City, Hawai‘i; and sister Nobuko “Ann” Kusatsu of Kaimuki, Hawai‘i; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Lihu‘e Christian Church; service at 11 a.m.
