Hanalei’s Tyler Newton was surfing well in the earlier rounds of the Ezekiel Pro Junior meet at Huntington Beach, Calif., then fell victim to changing wind, weather and wave conditions in the later rounds, finishing around 20th.
He came back to Kaua‘i Monday night.
“I had a couple of real good heats, then got skunked,” he said, saying the small, windy conditions created surf that sometimes became no surf at all for long moments at a time.
He’ll be back on the road again for another “Cali” event, in Lower Trestles, later this month, he said.
The Ezekiel Pro Junior ran concurrently with the Vans Pier Classic at Huntington Beach, Calif.
Newton, also competing in the Vans Pier Classic, fell victim to the same conditions in that men’s meet, he lamented.
