Dana Palama, Keith Yamamoto and Rory Rayno teamed with Professional Golf Association Professional Steve Murphy to take the state Aloha Section Team Championship, last year at O‘ahu’s Turtle Bay course.
That Kaua‘i team went on in October to represent Hawai‘i in the McGladrey Team National Championships at Pinehurse Resort in North Carolina and finished 12th place in a field of 41 teams from across the nation, states a release from Aluli Public Relations.
Golfers from Kaua‘i have another shot at the McGladrey Team National Championships by participating in the qualifier for the 2009 PGA McGladrey Team Championship, April 25 at the Prince Course in Princeville starting at 11 a.m.
The PGA McGladrey Team Championship is a PGA of America-sanctioned event that was first introduced in 2007. The net best-ball event is open to male and female golfers of all levels, offering all golfers an opportunity to participate in a national championship.
Winners of the local qualifier will advance to the sectional qualifying tournament at Maui‘s Kahili Golf Course on Aug. 10. The National Championship is scheduled for Oct. 26-28 at Pinehurst Resort.
The qualifying event at the Prince Course will follow a three-person team, best-ball, low-net format.
All players must have a USGA Type 1 or Type 2 handicap index. Entry fee is $95 for the Prince event and includes green fees, shared cart and range balls.
A minimum of three scores per player must be used and the winning team will be determined by the lowest team net score. The two winning teams of three amateurs will be joined bya PGA Professional from the Prince course at the Hawai‘i sectional tournament.
The 18-hole Prince Course has been ranked by “Golf Digest” as Hawai‘i’s No. 1 golf course and is the only course in the state of Hawai‘i to be recognized on Golf Digest’s 2007-08 list of America’s “Top 100 Greatest Courses.”
