LIHU‘E — The 93rd Annual King Kamehameha Day floral parade and Ho‘olaule‘a will take place Saturday starting at 10 a.m., said Kahanu Smith of the King Kamehameha Day Committee.
The annual floral parade will start at 10 a.m. from the Vidinha Stadium parking lot and will travel up Rice Street from the Ho‘olako Street intersection, ending on the grounds of the Historic County Building.
Special traffic advisories will be in effect and motorists and people using Rice Street and Ho‘olako Street in the affected area are encouraged to make other arrangements while the parade passes by.
Smith said the parade promises to be exciting with representatives of the different Hawaiian civic clubs, Pa‘u princesses representing seven of the eight Hawaiian Islands, beauty queens, decorated vehicles and walking units.
Tracy Fu will represent Ni‘ihau, Sue Reghi will have the colors of Kaua‘i, Shannon Kaiminauauo will represent O‘ahu, Malia Reghi will be garbed in the colors of Moloka‘i, Amber Loughead will represent Lana‘i, Julie Mijare will be the princess of Kaho‘olawe and Eileen Donohue will represent the Big Island of Hawai‘i.
The ho‘olaule‘a will start shortly following the completion of the parade and will feature crafters, food booths and entertainment.
Smith said the committee invites everyone to be a part of a community cultural event.
