Kua paced the Westside Basketball to a 36-8 win over Team Central 1 and Kristin Kawamura finished with a dozen marks to lead Lihu‘e Basketball to a 26-3 win over Kaulupono as the county wrapped up its 11 and Under basketball program at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Joining Kua, Charlie Rabago and Briggs Agu netted seven and five points, respectively for the win.
Kelii Alcos and Travis Ornellas finished with four and three points, respectively to pace the Team Central 1 effort.
Kaylin Kawamura added six points to sister Kristin’s dozen marks to lead the Lihu‘e Basketball. Bree Ann Cayaban netted a pair of free throws to lead the Kaulupono effort.
Kaulupono coaches Bobby Kamakele and Pedro Saligumba will bring out Kaulupono’s 14 and Under to the 6th Annual Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association Girls 14 and Under tournament that will start Friday.
Kaulupono White will open the tournament starting at 5 p.m. against Kilauea, coached by Mits Yokotake, during the three-day tournament.
Karen Matsumoto, one of the KYBA coordinators, said there will be a team from Molokai, the Hawaiian Hearts coached by Melanie “Leo” Wainui, and two teams from Maui, Kalama Basketball out of Kalama Hills coached by Donald and Danielle Shepherd, and the Kula Stars coached by Nathan and Jonathan Furtado.
Those teams will be competing against Kaulupono White and Blue teams, Gee’s Angels, Kamikaze and the Kilauea Hui.
Playoff brackets start Saturday from 9 a.m. and the championships will take place Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
The public is invited to view the games at no charge at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
