PO‘IPU — Bryden Salvador finished with an 84 to take top honors at the annual Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association Spring Classic Saturday at the Kiahuna Golf Club.
Salvador, playing the course with Trevor Kua, overtook the brother of University of Hawai‘i golfer T.J. Kua, and took the 11-12 Division Championship by two strokes over Kua’s 86.
On the girls side, Na‘ea Oda emerged as the 11-12 Girls Division champion after score card matching, Oda getting a 97-34 over Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino’s 97-35.
Keith Jose finished with a 104 to capture the 10 Under “A” Flight over Michael Miller (114) and Randy Mizuno (125), Mizuno making short work of the No. 9 after coming out of a fairway bunker only to drop into the right hole.
Logan Gibson took the Junior Tees division with a 91, two strokes better than Douglas Sears (93), Reece Valencia (98) and Hi‘ilani Alana (116).
The Spring Classic continues this Sunday when the Kaua‘i Junior Golf players 13-18 division tee off at the Kiahuna Golf Club starting at 12:30 p.m.
Earlier, Jose captured top honors in the KJGA Menehune Jr. Championship played at the Puakea Golf Course. In that match, Jose (103) finished a stroke ahead of Miller (104). Steven Braun (107) and Mizuno (117) rounded out the 12 Under “A” Flight in that tournament.
KC Loo, missing the Saturday Spring Classic, topped the 12 Under Championship Flight with an 84, six strokes ahead of Salvador (90), last Saturday’s winner, Matthias Davis (98) and Landen Ishida (105).
Tanaka-Pesamino, dropping to Oda in the Spring Classic, was a winner in the Girls 12 Under division with a 103, seven strokes ahead of Oda (110) and Kelii Jim (114).
Valencia topped the 10 Under Jr. Tees with a 90 over Rilen Loo (95), Alana (98), Gibson (99) and Sears (100).
Sean Mamaclay topped the 15-18 Championship Flight with a 78 over Weston Moniz (85) and Levi Miyashiro (86), all three golfers taking part in the David Ishii Foundation State Boys Championship last week at the Royal Ka‘anapali Course on Maui.
Justin Uegawa topped the 15-18 “A” Flight with an 88 over Kyle Groves’ 116.
Dusty Psaila captured the 13-14 Championship Flight with a 77 over Reyn Morioka (82) and Taylor Viquelia (89).
Pono Tokioka topped the 13-14 “A” Flight with an 84, five strokes ahead of Braeden Robley (89). Ken Miyata followed with a 91, two strokes better than Kai Adachi’s 93 for third and fourth places, respectively.
Daezsa Tomas topped the 13-14 “B” Flight with a 91 over Erroll Lanning (116) and Trevor Virga (134).
