Congratulations to Ashlee Jimenez (if you didn’t see her run at Vidinha Stadium, you missed out!) of Kamehameha Schools who won the “Best in Show” at the Kaha Ki‘i Congressional art contest.
Her pen and ink depicts how the ancient Hawaiians used physics, engineering and astronomy to survive. That piece will be hung in the U.S. Capitol for a year and Ashlee and her instructor, Jim Dong, will be heading to Washington D.C. for the honor. Ashlee is the sister of Jamielee Jimenez who is currently with the UH women’s track team.
On the subject of track, hats off to coach Richard Matsumoto and Dave Walker for being on hand when the County of Kaua‘i hosted its Age Group Track Meet. These high school coaches being on hand to watch the young students compete serve as mentors to the young athletes. Congratulations to Aaron Uyeda and all the Parks and Recreation Department staff (this is about the only time we get to see Ku‘ulei Takashima) for doing such a great job.
Finally, happy birthday to Kayla Werner who was celebrating her special day trying to qualify for the Girls Discus at the KIF qualifying meet, Thursday!
OK, ‘nuff said…time to check out the lei at Kaua‘i Museum!
