PUHI — Grove Farm employees spent their Thursday lunch picking flowers and sewing lei.
“This is a quarterly employee project,” said Marissa Sanblom, a Grove Farm vice president. “The employees got this suggestion, voted on it and the company sponsored the event by paying for the supplies.”
Sanblom said it was a way for the Grove Farm employees to remember the sacrifices of veterans while taking advantage of the many flowering plants that grow along the route employees walk during their lunch break.
The completed lei will be picked up by Kaua‘i Veterans Coordinator Tony Elliott for distribution along with lei being contributed from schools around the island.
This year’s contribution totaled 142 lei.
Kaua‘i’s Memorial Day services coordinated by the Kaua‘i Veterans Council will start at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.
