The Kaua‘i High School baseball team starts tournament play Thursday afternoon.
Earning the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title by virtue of a 2-1 edge over the Waimea High School team last Wednesday, the Red Raiders, defending state champions of Division II, earned the No. 1 seeding in Division II of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball State Championships.
With its top seed, Kaua‘i opens play Thursday afternoon against the winner of the Radford and Honoka‘a matchup that takes place Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Hans L’Orange Field in Waipahu.
Second seed in Division II goes to St. Anthony, Waipahu gets the No. 3 seed and Hawai‘i Prep is fourth seeded in the state championships for the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association.
Other teams participating in the Division II field include Molokai, McKinley, Konawaena, Kahuku, Maryknoll and Makua Lani.
Pearl City was announced as the top seed for Division I followed by Iolani in the No. 2 seed. The Hilo Vikings and Kamehameha Schools-Maui are third and fourth seeded, respectively.
Team participating in the Division I field include Punahou, Campbell, Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, Waiakea, Moanalua, Mililani, Kailua and Maui.
The championship game for Division II is scheduled for Saturday starting at 4 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa campus. That contest will be followed by the championship game for Division I starting at 7 p.m.
