LIHU‘E — The county Board of Water Supply announced last week that David Craddick has been selected as the manager and chief engineer of the Department of Water, a county news release states.
Craddick assumed his new position Friday. He replaces Gregg Fujikawa, who has been acting manager and chief engineer for the past month.
“After a lengthy search, the Board of Water Supply is pleased to have found a highly qualified individual to head the water department,” said Board Chair Leland Kahawai. “With David’s expertise and years of experience, we feel confident that he will serve the department and Kaua‘i community very well.”
“I believe that strong leadership and innovation in the Department of Water, along with moving critical projects forward, is key to the sustainability of our island and keeping our economy strong and diverse,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “I look forward to working with David in the months ahead as we come together in government to better serve the people of Kaua‘i.”
Craddick is looking forward to leading the Department of Water.
He said, “I am honored to be selected by the Board and I look forward to working with the staff, community and elected officials as well as the Board to continue the long tradition on Kaua‘i of providing safe water at a reasonable cost for our customers.”
Craddick was raised on O‘ahu and has more than 30 years experience in the field of water and wastewater management, having served as general manager for Guam Waterworks Authority, director and deputy director of Maui County Board of Water Supply, and chief engineer for Water Resources International Inc.
He received his bachelor’s of science and mechanical engineering degree with a focus on fluid and material mechanics, as well as a bachelor’s of science and civil engineering degree with a focus on hydrology and structures from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
Additionally, Craddick completed the management program at UHM.
Craddick will move to Kaua‘i from Maui with his wife Florenda.
“The Board would also like to acknowledge Gregg Fujikawa for his assistance during the transition period, and express our appreciation to Wynne Ushigome, who served as acting manager and chief engineer for over three years,” said Kahawai.
