Princeville Library Summer Reading Program
Color your world with reading this summer by joining Princeville Public Library’s free Children’s and Young Adults’ Summer Reading Programs and receive weekly prizes. Both programs run through mid-July. The children’s program, “Color Your World with Reading,” is open to pre-schoolers through students entering sixth grade. The young adults’ program, “Read a Movie,” is open to students entering seventh grade to grade 12. To volunteer call Barbara Smith, 826-7585 or sign up at main desk at the library. Kaua‘i scholars
Waimea High School graduate, Benji Allan Sevilleja Baclig, was the recipient of a $10,000 Coca-Cola national scholarship. The foundation selects 250 finalists annually to become scholars. Students are then invited to attend the Scholar’s Weekend for recognition. Ralph Suniga, Kaua‘i District Sales Manager presented Baclig with his award at a ceremony held May 22. Suniga also presented Nancy Hee, Baclig’s mother, with the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award. Baclig has received $55,000 in scholarships and will attend Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Kaua‘i High School graduate Kevin Akiyama was awarded a $1,000 EK Lions scholarship and will attend the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo to pursue a degree in engineering.
Kaua‘i High School graduate Daven Catiggay-Bodano received a four-year, $5,000 scholarship from the University of Oregon. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and plans to major in digital media leading to a degree in architecture.
