LIHU‘E — The public got a preview of the 2009-10 school year early Sunday morning.
Some of the Kapa‘a High School cheer squad members were soliciting donations outside the Wal-Mart store in Lihu‘e in exchange for Cookie Corner treats and a personal cheer.
“This is only the first shift,” said Kanana Khaulua, one of the squad’s advisers. “We have more coming to take over a little later.”
Kuhaulua, returning as advisor for the Warrior Cheer Squad, said there are 15 students who make up this year’s squad, and she is hopeful that the program will only continue to get stronger.
“We were pretty good last year,” Kuhaulua said. “This year, we hope to get over the top.”
Proceeds from the cookie sales will help the squad with equipment, but more importantly, help the cheer team attend cheer camp that is scheduled for July 24-27 on O‘ahu, Kuhaulua said.
“We’ll have some extras after today’s sale, but people will have to find the cheerleaders to get some,” the advisor said.
Joining Kuhaulua as adviser is Tita Kuhaulua-Leong.
