LIHU‘E — The public is invited to the opening of the Children’s Art Gallery on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the County of Kaua‘i Pi‘ikoi Building, according to a press release from county Director of Parks and Recreation Lenny Rapozo.
In collaboration with the Office of the Mayor, Department of Parks and Recreation and the Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts, the Children’s Art Gallery was developed as a means to reinforce the importance of art as a conduit to express our children’s feelings and culture, which stem directly from their heart and soul, the release said.
“Our children’s interest and talents are many and varied. Some have tremendous athletic ability. Others have great scholastic potential,” the release said. “However, we have a ways to go in doing the same for those children demonstrating artistic ability. Much as music and dance are part of the very soul of a society, so are the visual arts.”
By nurturing and encouraging their work and then exhibiting the work in an attractive, professional, yet warm and inviting environment, we will be able to set a foundation for children who are artistically inclined, teaching them how they can crate and sell, and even possibly someday become self-supporting artists.
Exhibit hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday excluding holidays, the release said.
Art classes are available island-wide through the Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts. Participants learn not only how to create art, but the practical business side of marketing, valuation, sales, and budgets. Local artist and kupuna teach and mentor the children in various traditional and non-traditional art forms.
