WAILUA — A banner installed last Friday along Kuhio Highway in Wailua helped to launch the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Drive Safe campaign, a county news release states.
The message on the banner is “Please Drive Safe, Drive Smart and Drive with Aloha.”
Partnering with KPD is Life’s Bridges, a nonprofit organization which contributed the banner to the safe driving campaign.
“We want to thank Life’s Bridges for partnering with us on this important campaign,” said Police Chief Darryl Perry.
“I believe that through the combined efforts of everyone in our community, we can make the roads safer and in the process, save lives.”
Perry noted that while he strongly urges everyone to drive safely on all roads, the Wailua to Hanama‘ulu corridor has historically been the scene of more serious crashes than any other location on the island.
The emphasis of the drive safe campaign is on the following concepts:
• Be attentive and minimize distractions, while obeying the rules of the road.
• Be aware of road conditions and be prepared to slow down, while paying attention to the posted speed limit.
• Be courteous to other drivers and pedestrians. The life you save may be your own.
Perry encourages other nonprofit groups to join its drive safe campaign.
