Papa‘au came in second overall, Thursday at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Horse and Pony Series, Race No. 3.
But with the PHRF correction time, the eight-second second-place finish pushed the Express 27 to a first finish over Fast Company, resulting in a two-way tie for the lead in the series.
Using the tie-breaker for first finish in the most recent race, Papa‘au was awarded the top trophy over Fast Company for the series.
Fast Company, finishing first last week, continued to lead, finishing first in elapsed time with a 27:27 sail in the Horse phase of the race.
That time was just eight seconds faster than Papa‘au, but when the PHRF correction was added, Papa‘au jumped into the lead with a 26:24 PHRF sail over Fast Company’s 27:30 PHRF.
Papa‘au aided her own cause with a first finish in the Pony phase on a 17:46 sail to Fast Company’s fifth place finish at 19:30.
That gave Papa‘au the top berth at 44:10 combined over Fast Company’s 47:00 combined.
The win gave Papa‘au top honors in both the PHRF Open Class with six points, and the PHRF Monohull Class with six points.
Fast Company finished second in both classes by virtue of its second-place finish, tallying six points in the series.
Both boats had garnered a first, second and third-place finish throughout the three-race series.
OZone, finishing the series with a first, sixth and third finish, settled in third place in the Open and Monohull classes with 10 points. She crossed the line in 47:19 combined at the last race of the series.
Lelele finished Thursday’s race in fourth place (48:12 combined) to finish fifth in both the Open and Monohull classes. Through the series, Lelele piled up a fifth, fourth and fifth-place finish.
Speedy finished the final race of the series on a combined 47:52 sail to finish fourth in the Open and Monohull classes. Through the series, Speedy had a Did Not Finish, a second and fourth place.
Bonjolea, an E-342, rounded out the Thursday racers with a combined 48:28 sail, finishing the series with a sixth-place finish in the Open and Monohull classes.
Bonjolea crossed the line on a 26:31 CLUB correction to finish in first place in the Club class, Thursday.
The CLUB corrected time was not enough to get Bonjolea (26:31 CLUB) past Papa‘au (24:24 CLUB), Thursday, and the X-342 finishes the series with two first places and a second place.
Kalewa and Coyote did not participate in the Thursday finale and finish the series in seventh and eighth places, respectively.
