LIHU‘E — A one-day public workshop, Win-Win Transportation Solutions for a Sustainable Kaua‘i, will be offered on Tuesday at the War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e, a news release says.
The program features guest speaker Todd Litman, the executive director and founder of the Victoria Transport Policy Institute, an independent research organization dedicated to developing innovative solutions to transport problems. His research is used worldwide in transport planning and policy analysis.
Part I of the workshop will discuss the concepts and policies related to sustainable transportation and healthy community planning that balances economic, social and ecological objectives.
Part II will delve into transportation and land use policy reforms including comprehensive policy and project evaluation, multi-modal planning practices, cost-benefit analysis, parking management and smart growth policy reforms. Specific examples facing Hawai‘i communities, including transit oriented development, will be shared.
This workshop is designed for a wide audience including planning and engineering professionals, as well as public health, environmental and energy professionals, and interested community members.
The event is presented by Kaua‘i Planning & Action Alliance, County of Kaua‘i Transportation Agency and Get Fit Kaua‘i Coalition with support from the Federal Transit Administration.
Pre-registration is required along with a $25 fee (waived for county staff only) which must be received by KPAA by Friday, August 7. The program starts promptly at 9 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. To download the registration form, go to www.kauainetwork.org
