The Kaua‘i Board of Realtors’ “Realtors for Education” initiative continues to support the needs of Kaua‘i students. A huge mahalo goes out to KMart, Longs Drugs and KBR members for their support of the KBR 8th Annual School Supply Drive.
KBR collects supplies for donation to children who would otherwise go without the necessary materials, like pencils, composition books and rulers. Without these essential tools these kids are ill-equipped for learning.
KBR is very excited and passionate about the opportunity to give back to the community’s youth. While the Drive did take some time and effort it was well worth it to help children get a better education. Teachers are also appreciative; many times they will purchase supplies out of their own pockets for children whose families simply can’t afford them.
Four truck loads of items from pens to filler paper… $5,000 worth of supplies… was purchased by KBR. The KBR Public Relations committee spent the morning doing pick up sorting and distributing them amongst 6 public Middle and High schools on Kauai for the benefit of its students. The $5,000 comes from a portion of the dues that Realtors and Affiliates pay to be a member of the Kauai Board of Realtors.
Parents and Teachers in need of assistance with supplies should contact their schools PCNC (Parent Community Network Coordinator) advisors. These Advisors will provide information to economically challenged students and their parents about sources of supplies that they will need to begin the school year.
In addition to the school supplies, KBR also grants annual scholarships to deserving Kauai students. In May of 2009, $11,000 in Scholarships was awarded to Kauai graduating seniors.
