Kudos to Sybil Nishioka and Faith Shiramizu on another great Dodgeball Tournament! Bill Dahle (they gotta work on getting him to do an MC stint at the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau Fair) and Zabbie Zablan did a great job announcing the matches, and Michael Alonzo found out the black screening makes for a jumpy video (the camera has a hard time figuring out what to focus on).
Coach Kevin Cram was working the shave ice booth and tryng to figure out if he had a dodgeball team, or not. Ashley Nonaka (she graduates with a journalism degree this winter) was juggling between helping at the bon dance in Waimea and the tournament in Kapa‘a, and still had time to stand guard over the baby mejiro that somehow escaped its box.
More kudos to Pat Finberg and all those hard-working heiva people at the Kapa‘a Beach Park. Mike Teruya was out with his equipment and wondering if Steve Read was going to make this year’s heiva. Uncle Jerry Kaneholani was busy with his coconut frond weaving (saw Kenny Ishii was in doing the Aunty Ono shave ice at Ono Family Restaurant), and Kane Pa had his newest grandson on hand at the heiva food booth.
OK, ‘nuff said … it’s time to go check out Kenny and Joy Miyoshi at the Masa’s Shave Ice wagon at the Kukui Grove Monday Market … maybe Ada Koene will find her flower guy this week.
