LIHU‘E — When Lynn and Tim Mira of Lawa‘i offered up a free Love and Respect seminar for couples in celebration of the Miras’ 25th wedding anniversary last month, even some visitors on vacation took advantage of the class, Lynn Mira said.
“Although many of the family and friends that we dearly love were not able to make the seminar, we were surprised to have approximately 40 people attend the classes,” she said in an e-mail.
“The representation of the people in attendance were from Kapa‘a to Kekaha, old and young, married, divorced, engaged, separated, living together and single, black, brown, yellow and white-skinned, long-time and just-moved Kaua‘i residents, visitors vacationing on Kaua‘i,” she said.
“I guess what we’re trying to say is that the classes appealed to a wide representation of people on Kaua‘i,” she said.
“Because of this, Love and Respect will be back by popular demand,” she said.
Classes start today and run each Thursday for seven weeks, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Bible Church along Kaumuali‘i Highway in ‘Oma‘o.
Once again, it is free to all. Registration is not required, but organizers would appreciate an e-mail or phone call to let them know who is coming.
Childcare is also provided by request.
E-mail loveandrespectkauai@yahoo.com or call 332-7406 with intent to attend.
This is a DVD series by Dr. Emerson and Sarah Eggerichs (www.loveandrespect.com) who have purposed their life mission to helping improve male and female relationships, especially through marriage.
Their concept is based on the biblical scripture, Ephesians 5:33: “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”
A question the Miras ask, and try to answer in the seminar, is “why did God have to command husbands to love their wives and command wives to respect their husbands?”
“We promise you smiles, laughter, thought-provoking information and ‘a-ha’ moments that could possibly change your life forever and influence other relationships around you,” Lynn Mira said.
