LIHU‘E — County officials report that the electronic waste recycling event held recently was very successful.
Nearly 600 residents and 160 businesses came to the free event, bringing assorted electronic items for recycling, a county news release says.
As a result, 67 tons of electronics were diverted from the Kekaha Landfill and are now in transit to E-World Recyclers in California where they will be dismantled and their components recycled.
Recycle Hawai’i, a nonprofit organization based on the Big Island, was contracted to manage the event and ship the collected items for recycling.
