PO‘IPU — Grove Farm Co. is assessing the damage from Sunday’s brush fire, Marissa Sandblom, a Grove Farm vice president, said Monday.
“Grove Farm had people watching over the area overnight for possible flare-ups,” she said in an e-mail. “We will continue to monitor the site throughout the day, Monday, as well.”
According to the Kaua‘i Fire Department, the brush fire that scorched 100 to 200 acres was accidental and probably caused by spontaneous combustion in a green waste pile, county spokesperson Mary Daubert said.
Sandblom said Grove Farm works closely with a number of agencies to ensure that, in the event of an emergency, the police and fire department personnel have access to Grove Farm lands to be able to protect lessees and residents while minimizing property damage.
“Grove Farm wants to thank the tenants, contractors, emergency responders, and Grove Farm personnel for working together to successfully contain the brush fire,” said Michael Tresler, a Grove Farm vice president. “As always, the Kaua‘i Fire Department and emergency responders did an excellent job.”
