Naka Mikasa is one of the charter members of the East Kaua‘i Y’s Men’s Club and was helping Make A Difference at the Friends of Kamalani work day, Saturday.
Donna Schultze said the East Kaua‘i Y’s Men’s Club celebrates its 60th anniversary in July and is already trying to schedule Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. to help celebrate the event.
Tom Tannery was helping the club at Lydgate but had to leave early to take in the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics meet that was taking place at the YMCA pool.
Pauline Ibia was one of the Wal-Mart volunteers helping to cut watermelon for lunch, and when it’s as hot as it was, that definitely makes a difference. Pauline said after this stint, the Wal-Mart crew prepares for the Veterans Day and the Lights on Rice parades — one event at a time.
Meanwhile, Michelle Panoke was heading the food collection drive at Wal-Mart and Kelvin Moniz was heading the drive at the Kukui Grove Center (Tyler Navarro is already anticipating the Thursday shoot-off with Waimea boys air riflery team). Tyler was helping with the Leo Club until he had to leave for the Key Club sleepover.
Kelvin said Judy Lenthall was out and about as a drifter, maybe stopping to visit the Kapa‘a High School cheerleaders who were manning the Safeway store until they had to leave for volleyball.
OK, so with all that activity, when is the next holiday?
