Spectators are dwarfed by a large swell that crashes over the Kalapaki seawall Thursday morning. The Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Ocean Safety Bureau urged residents and visitors to avoid going on the wet sand or in the water at all North Shore and Eastside beaches because extremely high surf with 20- to 30-foot faces had created hazardous ocean conditions, according to a press release. ∫ See Weather on A2 for the surf forecast.
