LIHU‘E — As Kaua‘i Police Department Lt. Sherwin Kaleo Perez looks over the results of arrests made since the beginning of regular publication of Most Wanted and Outstanding Warrants stories in the newspaper, he said he realizes the stories are making a difference.
People are coming forward with tips on whereabouts of wanted persons, some are turning themselves in, and some dangerous people are being taken off the streets as a result, he said.
Just in the six days from Thursday, Nov. 5 through Tuesday, Nov. 10, nearly a dozen people were arrested whose names had appeared in The Garden Island weekly stories, including six who were earlier named Most Wanted.
Speaking of being named earlier, Alika Ernest Soares, 23, who is white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds and with a last known address in Kalaheo, makes a return visit to the Most Wanted list, this time on a warrant of arrest from the state Hawai‘i Paroling Authority for parole violation. He has brown eyes and black hair, and no bail amount listed.
Hilton Kalanipio Niau, 25, is a Native Hawaiian 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with brown eyes and black hair and a last known address in ‘Ele‘ele. He is wanted on two counts of criminal contempt of court, with a total bail of $7,000.
Malachi Makaio Araneta, 31, is Filipino, with height and weight unknown and a last known address in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu. He is wanted on one grand jury warrant and two bench warrants, for second-degree theft, criminal contempt of court and a motion for revocation or modification of probation for failure to comply with terms or conditions of the probation, with a total bail of $6,300.
Nathan Kalaukahike Lemn, 44, a Native Hawaiian 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes and a last known address in Anahola, is wanted on one grand jury bench warrant for first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail is $5,000.
Steven Dean Reichel, 45, is white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds and with a last known address in Kapa‘a. He is wanted on two bench warrants for criminal contempt of court, with a total bail of $2,750.

Arrested on bench warrants between Nov. 5 and Nov. 10 were Jimmy Apilado, Angelica Baptiste, Lance Bator (five warrants), Charles Chang (two warrants), Wayne Inouye (two warrants), Evan Lotu, Don Sadomiano, David Saraos, Duane Dawson, Hurley Haiku and Jeffrey Maddox.
Bator, Chang, Inouye, Sadomiano, Haiku and Maddox were pictured in previous Most Wanted stories, Bator, Inouye and Maddox just last week.
