LIHU‘E — A 16-year-old male sustained minor injuries in a one-car crash Sunday morning on Kaumuali‘i Highway, county officials said.
The Kaua‘i Police Department said he was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle for treatment, according to county spokesperson Mary Daubert.
The crash occurred at around 11:17 a.m. in the vicinity of mile marker four just before Halfway Bridge, according to a preliminary report.
The juvenile was eastbound in a Honda SUV when it crossed the centerline and went into the gravel on the side of the road. The driver then attempted to bring his vehicle back into the eastbound lane, but he hit the guardrail and came to a stop.
Traffic was tied up for about 45 minutes after the crash, Daubert said in an e-mail Sunday evening, with traffic alternating in the westbound lane until the damaged vehicle was removed.
