Mikayla Villanueva is looking forward to celebrating her fourth birthday, Jan. 2. How many of you remember the granddaughter of Nora Villanueva when she was the New Year Baby, three years ago?
Sunday, Mikayla celebrated her first Rizal Day service along with Jason Iloreta, who earlier in the day hiked up Sleeping Giant with his brother Josh. Jason did a great job with the English translation of Dr. Jose Rizal’s final farewell poem as Josh watched intently from the audience.
Hats off to Kaua‘i Fire Capt. Steven Doi and all those fire volunteers for making Josh’s dream come true — people are still talking about the feat!
Mahalo to Bev Brody (Miss Canada) for the nice holiday card from Canada (she was on the inaugural flight of WestJet out of Lihu‘e), and more mahalo to Port Townsend, Wash. and Kathryn Peterson and Mark Finch (Orca are supposed to be in Washington, not San Juan).
OK, it’s that time of the year when Erika Kleinfeld comes to call. Erika has been working since last week and on Monday was chatting with Kaua‘i Fire Inspector Robert Craddick about fireworks. Enjoy it while you can… once it’s gone, so is Erika, until next year (she said it’s the BIG one!).
Happy New Year, Kaua‘i! Enjoy, be merry, but stay safe!
