Cornelis Vankeaken
Cornelis Keith Vankeeken of Kalaheo died Dec. 31, 2009, at his home at age 84. He was born on July 26, 1925, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by parents Marinus Sr. and Carolien Vankeeken, and brother Benjamin.
He is survived by daughters Irene (Aren) Van Loon and Mieke (Yke) Vandermeer both of Holland; four grandsons; brother Marinus (Anne) Vankeeken Jr. of Holland; sister Carol Vankeeken of Koloa; and one niece.
Memorial service at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 24, at Salt Pond Beach Park, west end. The family requests to bring flower petals that can be set afloat in ocean with ashes.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Alice Kaneshiro
Alice Alani Tung-Loong Kaneshiro of Kekaha died Jan. 16, 2010, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 83. Born on Aug. 15, 1926, in Koloa, she was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband Yoshio Kaneshiro; daughter Ethel Michioka; grandson Byron Michioka; brothers Samuel Chi Kane Sr. and Arthur Poli; sisters Lillian Christian and Emmaline Ho‘oikaika.
She is survived by her sons Julius Kaneshiro of Washington, Patrick (Charmaine) Kaneshiro of Kekaha and Dereck Kaneshiro of Kekaha; daughters Lucia (Raymond) Bartels of Kekaha, Nada (James) Wong of Waianae, Faith (Les) Kwock of Mililani, Noelle (Jonathan) Renti Cruz of Kekaha, Anna Lee (Lance) Lum of Waimanalo; son-in-law Stanley Michioka; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Ah Kem Tung Loong, Melvin Tung Loong, Douglas Tung Loong and Marvin Tung Loong; sisters Charlotte Tung Loong May and Desiree Kuilani Tung Loong; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation at noon, service at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavilion.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Patrocinio Garasi
Patrocinio Garasi of Kapa‘a died Dec. 24, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 59. Born on Oct. 17, 1950, in Ilocos Norte, San Nicolas, Philippines, he was an irrigator for Lihu‘e Plantation and a landscaper with Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his father Jose Rizal Garasi, niece Eileen Coloma Gonzalez and son-in-law S. Sgt. Randy Suyat Agno.
He is survived by his wife Lyrie Coloma Garasi of Kaua‘i; daughters Marvelyn Garasi-Agno and Mary Jane Garasi of Kaua‘i; grandsons Jarren and Jensen Agno of Kaua‘i; mother Ernesta Garasi of the Philippines; sisters Lenonita Tabios, Imelda Hernandez and Perlita Garasi of San Nicolas, Philippines.
Viewing at 8 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial at noon, at Lihu‘e Public Cemetery, with luncheon to follow at Immaculate Conception.
Casual attire is suggested.
Willie Mock Jr.
Willie Deforest Mock Jr. of Marysville, Calif., died Dec. 12, 2009, at his home at age 78. Born on Aug. 25, 1931, in Los Angeles, Calif., he was a retired electrician and a veteran from the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his son Wyatt Mock and stepson Jonathan Silva.
He is survived by his wife Ramona Mock; daughter Kathy Sparlin; son Mark (Yvonne) Mock; stepdaughters Judith (Colin) McLedd and Brenda (John) Martin; stepson Clayton Silva; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held in California on Dec. 21, 2009.
