LIHU‘E — Jayme Jacinto had the touch from the outside and knocked down five 3-pointers to lead the Waimea Lady Menehune to a 57-35 win over the Kaua‘i Red Raiders, Tuesday night at the Kaua‘i High School Gym.
Jacinto led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Erin Connelly followed with 13. Brandee Victorino and Cheyanne Duarte each chipped in eight points for Waimea.
Kristle Henry was the top scorer for Kaua‘i, scoring 13 in the game. Kawehi Louis-Diamond had eight, followed by Kelsey Cadiente’s six.
Kaua‘i scored the game’s first three points, but the Lady Menehune followed with a 15-2 run, capped off by a great cut and pass from Bristy-Ann Agu to Vakeesha Lagazo for a layup.
Jacinto’s third 3-pointer of the opening quarter made it a 20-10 game and the Lady Menehune held a nine-point lead at the end of the first.
Lagazo had a nice feed in the second as she found Connelly underneath for a layup and a 12-point lead.
The Raiders had some opportunities to cut into the margin, but missed five straight free throws late in the second quarter, before Louis-Diamond ended that streak with a three-point play.
Jacinto nailed another from long range just before the halftime buzzer to give the Lady Menehune a 38-20 lead at the break.
The two teams played pretty evenly throughout the second half, but Kaua‘i was unable to make any real push into the Waimea lead.
In the JV contest earlier at Kaua‘i High School, Waimea used a 16-5 fourth quarter to come away with a 37-33 victory.
Nicolei Banasihan scored six of her team-high 11 points in the final quarter. Jullynn Ramos had eight for the Lady Menehune, while Jessica Tangalin and Patria Tagavilla each added six.
Kaua‘i’s Casey Anacleto scored a game-high 17, while Alyssa Vegas and Alexis Hernandez scored six and four points, respectively.
