Kaua‘i High School girls soccer will play the Kaimuki Bulldogs Wednesday starting at 3 p.m. at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Kapa‘a, getting the No. 2 seed in Division II, will have the opening round bye and face the winner of the Honoka‘a/Radford matchup, Thursday afternoon starting at 3 p.m., according to a story appearing on The Honolulu Advertiser Web site.
Efforts to reach the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association were unsuccessful by press time.
Kaua‘i High School earned the right to the JN Automotive Group HHJSAA Girls Soccer State Championships by defeating the Mid Pacific Institute Owls, Saturday, 2-1 in a shootout behind a diving save from goalkeeper Kawehi Louis-Diamond followed by a successful kick to the left corner by Dana Fujii.
That edge moved the Red Raiders into the opening round, Wednesday. If successful there, Kaua‘i advances to the quarterfinals on Thursday where it will face No. 4 seed Hawai‘i Prepatory Academy.
Kapa‘a, representing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation as its girls soccer champions, finished last year as the Division II runner-up, dropping to Pac-Five. The Warrior wahine opens its bid for this year’s state title in the quarterfinals, Thursday.
Pac-Five, the ILH winner, is the third seed with Hawai‘i Prep, the BIIF champion, in the No. 4 seed. Kailua, undefeated with a 12-0-0 record, holds the top seed.
Prior to 2009, Kapa‘a finished as runner up in 1998 when it dropped to Punahou after stalemating the contest at the half at Aloha Stadium.
Punahou is the top seed in Division I followed by Mililani, Baldwin and Hilo.
