KAPA‘A — The Red Open division team swept the weekend series by marking a 6-2 win over the Green team, Friday night, and soaring to an 11-2 margin over the Blue team, Sunday at the Kapa‘a inline hockey rink.
The Squirt division of the Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association, also playing two games, split its weekend series when the Red Devils recovered from a 13-9 loss to the Blue Dragons, Friday night and jumped to an 18-9 win, Sunday.
In the sole Bantam division match, the Green Machine was a 9-3 winner over the Red Heat, Sunday.
Ikaika Fuerte and Mathias Davis each netted two goals to lead the Red Open, Friday night. Les Drent added a goal and an assist with Brandon Muraoka netting a goal and Mika Givens getting an assist, Friday.
Jaime Pablo, the Red goalkeeper, finished Friday with 47 saves on 49 shots. On Sunday, Pablo finished with 29 saves on 31 shots.
Drent and Givens led the Sunday victory with four goals apiece followed by John Masterson ending with two goals and an assist. Chris Wingerberg ended with a goal and Muraoka had an assist in the win.
Tom Gross tended goal for the Green Open, Friday, finishing the night with 29 saves on 35 shots. Mick Braden netted both Green scores.
Greg Balmores tended goal for the Blue Open, Sunday, finishing the day with 35 saves on 46 shots. Kawai Peahu got an assist from Andy Oda for the first-half shot and the goal by Tyson Wakayama at the 16:19 mark in the second half pulled the Blue to a 3-2 deficit before the Red exploded for eight goals starting at the 16:06 mark.
Kai Gandia exploded for 10 goals and two assists to lead the Squirt division Blue Dragons to its 13-9 comeback against the Red Devils, Sunday. He also netted all nine goals in the Dragons’ 18-9 loss to the Red Devils, Friday.
Makani Crowder capped the win with two goals and an assist with Kaison Carvalho rounding out the math, Sunday.
Shannon Sitzler and Makala Crowder had the hot sticks for the Red Devils, Friday, each player netting six goals with Sitzler adding an assist in the win.
Makani Crowder finished the night with four goals and Malia Alonzo marked two goals and an assist.
Shannon Sitzler continued her roll, Sunday, ending the day with six goals. Alonzo, Makala Crowder and T.J. Mowery each netted a goal in the Sunday effort.
Gandia donned the goalkeeper’s outfit for the Red Heat in the sole Bantam division game played Friday.
In that outing, he finished with 30 saves on 39 shots.
Jacob Lewis had two goals and Eli Leech-Kritchman scored one for the Red Heat.
Marius Fondila tended goal for the Green Machine, finishing the outing with 24 saves on 27 shots.
Cascade Mayer topped the Green Machine scoring with five goals and an assist followed by Kawai Peahu getting a hat trick and an assist.
Noah Leggit rounded out the scoring with a goal. Shannon Sitzler and Victor Sanchez each marked an assist in the win.
