Marlon Cudiamat finished with 10 points and Duke Yadao ended with a game-high 18 points to lead Hanakila and Papalina-Grey to victory, Saturday.
Games in the 13 and Under boys basketball league played at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center saw Hanakila wrap up a 30-17 win over the Wailua Boyz behind Cudiamat’s 10 points and James Stevens adding eight points.
Matthew Cummings and Leevi Bethel each netted six points and Denmark Aladin added five points to lead the Wailua effort.
Leslee Aki stepped up for the Kaua‘i Ballers with 10 points and Junard Mata added eight points, but the effort fell short, 45-18 to Papalina-Grey.
The Kaua‘i Ballers were victimized by a heavy weekend sports scheduling as its strong forward Fresno Masaniai was pulled away for other duties. Tyler Fernandez and Willo Batol, normally strong contributors to the team’s success, were also sorely missed as Papalina-grey was strapped with the 20-point rule from the second period.
Hanakila next travels to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, Monday night where it tangles with the Ho‘ouila yellowshirts starting at 6 p.m.
That match will be followed by the Papalina-Blue taking on the Westside starting at 7 p.m.
