LIHU‘E — Leiko Yamauchi netted four goals to lead the Westside Falcons, Girls Under 8, to a 9-0 edge over the Lihu‘e Cougars, Saturday.
That was just one of 15 games played at the North Vidinha fields as the Kaua‘i Soccer Association opened its spring season with a roster of 40 teams.
Divisions range from Under 8 to Under 18. The 15 Saturday games featured 33 of the league’s 40 teams.
The older divisions, Under 15 through Under 18, took the fields Sunday.
Kaira Kelekoma netted two goals. Kassidie Bukoshi, ToriAnn Ishikawa and Kylie Sugahara each pocketed a goal for the Westside Falcon victory.
Jeff Venzon, one of the referees at the opening day, said in an earlier match, Shayden Duldulao had a hat trick to lead the Westside Falcons, Boys Under 8, in its 5-0 win over Team Onipa‘a, Boys Under 7.
Nainoa Ragragola and Tresten Shigematsu each added goals for the Falcons in that win.
With the win over the Cougars, featuring many soccer first-timers, the Falcons swept its lower division matches, combining for 14 points while allowing no scores.

The public is invited to view the competition among the aspiring soccer players at the North Vidinha fields when play resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The final game kicks off at 12:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the public is invited to view the competition among the older division players starting at noon, also at the North Vidinha fields.
