LIHU‘E — The tsunami warning interrupted much of the Hawai‘i sports scene, Saturday, as the islands heeded the warnings and played it safe, cancelling many games and events around the state.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation cancelled all the day’s would-be activities, making the decision early in the morning to scrap Saturday’s action, which included the third and final day of the Waimea High School Baseball Invitational.
There was fluctuation with the University of Hawai‘i sports schedule, as all sports were initially cancelled for the day, but the men’s basketball game against Nevada was later determined to be back on after the warning was lifted, statewide.
Cancelled events included the baseball game against Oregon, which will be made up as part of a doubleheader today, beginning at 1 p.m. The Warriors won the first two games of the four-game series.
The volleyball match against BYU at Maui’s War Memorial Gym was cancelled and rescheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
For those who purchased tickets in person from the Stan Sheriff Center or any Rainbowtique stores, you must return the game tickets to the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office to receive your refund. The Warrior volleyball clinic scheduled for today at Baldwin High School was also cancelled.
The Wahine softball team’s first game of the day against the University of Oklahoma was called off, but they got a win in the afternoon against the University of Arizona.
