The Kapa‘a High School girls basketball team will start its bid for the Hawaiian Airlines Girls Basketball State Championships, Division II, Tuesday night at the Farrington High School gym on O‘ahu.
Led by coach Terry Maguire, the Lady Warriors captured the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship, finishing the season with an 8-1 record to earn the right to advance to the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association, Division II championships.
Kapa‘a opens its bid against University High and, if successful, advances to play No. 3 seed Sacred Hearts, Wednesday, again at Farrington High School.
Top seed in Division II is Molokai followed by the Kaimuki Bulldogs seeded second. Sacred Hearts is the No. 3 seed and Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i is the No. 4 seed.
Konawaena earns the top seed in Division I followed by No. 2 seed Lahainaluna, No. 3 Punahou and No. 4 Farrington.
Teams participating in the Division II include Hawai‘i Baptist, Kaiser, Kahuku, Word of Life, Seabury Hall, Hawai‘i Prep, Kapa‘a and University in addition to the four top seeds.
Division I teams in addition to the four top seeds include Baldwin, Kapolei, Iolani, Pearl City, Roosevelt, Mililani, Waiakea and Moanalua.
Championship games for the Hawaiian Airlines Girls basketball State Championships is scheduled for Friday, starting at 5 p.m. for Division II at the Blaisdell Arena, and 7 p.m. for Division I, also at the Blaisdell Arena.
