LIHU‘E — Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. submitted to the County Council this afternoon his proposed budget for fiscal year 2010–2011.
The mayor is seeking approval of a $146.28 million operating budget and a $100.59 million capital improvement program, a county news release states.
His proposed operating budget has been reduced by five percent from the current fiscal year and calls for county employee furloughs.
“This budget represents a commitment to reduce expenses, create greater efficiencies to achieve cost savings, maintain core services, focus resources on key initiatives, and build a foundation for greater fiscal stability in the future,” said the mayor in the release.
