LIHU‘E — As you read this, Ty Nakamoto, a junior at Kapa‘a High School, will be on his way to Washington, D.C.
Nakamoto, the president of the 4-H Federation on Kaua‘i, is one of four delegates from Hawai‘i to attend the 2010 National 4-H Conference which will take place March 20-25 in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. said Nakamoto’s participation in 4-H for four years combined with his personal learning experience, growth, and development in the program resulted in a strong foundation in leadership.
Nakamoto’s leadership led to an opportunity to lead his peers as president of the 4-H Federation on Kaua‘i.
“We acknowledge your commitment to the four core values of 4-H in utilizing head to clear thinking; heart to greater loyalty; hands to larger service; and health to better living,” Carvalho said in a Certificate of Recognition. “Your enthusiastic motivation and confidence for success is recognized by 4-H members and its leaders, family and friends, community, government leaders, and you bring special pride to Kapa‘a High School and your 11th grade class.”
Carvalho was joined by members of the Kaua‘i County Council with a certificate of commendation authored by councilman Derek Kawakami who found out about the student’s achievement from former councilman Mel Rapozo.
“We wish you well in this outstanding educational leadership experience with peers from across the nation,” Carvalho said. “Your participation in the conference sessions and the focus on citizenship will build collaboration, opportunities, and support for youth to make a difference in their community. All of Kaua‘i is proud of you.”
