LIHU‘E — The four people injured in a single-vehicle crash on Kuhio Highway in Waipouli Sunday night are all OK, officials said.
All are Kilauea residents, and though two are still in the hospital, the one who suffered the most severe injuries and was flown to The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu is conscious and in stable condition, said county spokesperson Mary Daubert.
The male driver, 24, was released from Wilcox Memorial Hospital after suffering a knee injury that required surgery.
An infant in the back seat who suffered a broken leg was also released from Wilcox.
Another female rear passenger is conscious and in stable condition at Queen’s after suffering serious head injuries, Daubert said.
A female front-seat passenger remains at Wilcox, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, said Daubert.
The names of the victims were not released, and the Kaua‘i Police Department investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, she said.
The vehicle heading northbound on the highway near the Coconut Marketplace apparently crossed the center line into the southbound lane and hit a utility pole, an earlier release says.
