LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Police Department investigators are seeking information about an unknown person or persons who broke into the supply room of the laundromat at ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center Monday night or Tuesday morning.
The suspect or suspects took the change machine off the wall and made off with it, leaving a trail of quarters behind, states a county press release.
In light of the recent rash of vending-machine thefts and attempted thefts, including an automated teller machine (ATM) at Anchor Cove shopping center in Nawiliwili, KPD is urging business owners that have coin-operated or cash-dispensing machines or equipment to take precautionary measures to ensure the security of these machines.
Anyone with information about the recent thefts or attempted thefts is urged to call KPD dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.
Anyone who sees the above-mentioned machines being transported during the late-night and early-morning hours is also asked to call police dispatch or Crime Stoppers, the release states.
