LIHU‘E — With a crew of 15 swimmers on hand to compete, Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics was well represented at the 30th Harry Mamizuka Invitational Swim Meet, coming away with a sixth-place team finish.
“The kids did a great job adapting to the course, 50-meter pool and racing format” head coach Billy Brown said in an email. “We had some outstanding finishes, the kids really raced well over the entire weekend.”
Its 223 team points were the most among all neighbor island teams.
Bryson Baligad, 12, finished atop the Boys 11-12 division with two first-place finished — one in the 100 Meter Backstroke (1 minute, 14.88 seconds) and one in the 200 Meter Individual Medley (2:41.94).
Anya Littlefield, 16, won the 200 Meter Butterfly (2:35.09) and 200 Meter Backstroke (2:41.61) on her way to second place in the Girls 15-16.
In the Girls 11-12, Kate Machorek, 12, won the 50 Meter Backstroke (35.86) and 100 Meter Backstroke (1:17.02). Younger brother Jack, 9, grabbed second in the Boys 10 and Under division’s 50 Meter Breaststroke.
Ka‘eo Kruse, 12, grabbed a state time in the Boys 11-12 Individual Medley (3:03.92), as did Sam Britzmann, 10, in the 100 Meter Breaststroke (1:55.35).
Kaira Ka‘aihue, 10, put up a new AA time in the 100 Meter Freestyle (1:33.39), competing in her first off-island meet.
The relay team of Sophie Britzmann, 14, Littlefield, Sinead Sims, 18, and Yasmine Ware, 13, finished third in the 400 Meter Relay and fifth in the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay.
Tambrina Fairbanks, 13, Quinn Hannah-White, 13, Jazmyn Ibaan Carvalho, 12, Maliana Kaui, 12, and Tyler Keith, 13, all put up personal-best times during the weekend.
SKA is back on-island to host the Kaua‘i Loves You Triathlon, Saturday at Kalapaki Bay.
