KEKAHA — A brush fire this morning scorched some five acres of former sugarcane lands across from the old Kekaha sugar mill.
No one was injured in the fire, and no structures were threatened, a county news release states.
Fifteen firefighters from the Waimea, Kalaheo, Koloa, Lihu‘e and Kapa‘a stations responded to the 10:30 a.m. alarm.
Air-1 provided aerial support with continuous water drops via helicopter for some two hours.
A Public Works crew from the Kekaha Landfill and Gay & Robinson workers cut fire breaks using bulldozers, and Public Works personnel assisted by providing water tankers.
The fire was deemed under control at around 1 p.m. and fully extinguished at 3:40 p.m.
