LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Bodyboarding Association held its Pine Trees competition on March 28 in Hanalei. The event had been scheduled for the previous day, but was moved to Sunday for better surf conditions.
The KBA still made use of the Saturday weather, putting together an impromptu shave ice fundraiser at the Pine Trees Longboard Classic.
Kaimana Wong took first place in the Open Men’s division, edging out Matt Domingcil, a member of the Kapa‘a High School varsity volleyball team, who finished in second place.
Alan Hoffman was the third-place finisher and Pohaku Kekaualua, one of the KBA organizers, rounded out the top four in the Open Men category.
Sammy Morretino was crowned the champion in the Junior Men division, with Iona and Luka Lo‘i finishing in second and third, respectively. Eli Duar grabbed the fourth-place finish.
The Drop Knee division was won by Mark Dylan Silva. Morretino followed up his Junior first with a DK second, as Hoffman and Rusty Akeo completed the top four standings.
