NAWILIWILI — Kapa‘a’s Sean Mamaclay birdied the No. 18 hole at Kaua‘i Lagoons to finish with an even-par 72, Saturday.
That was the best round in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf match and pulled Kapa‘a into the mix when the top four boy golfers from Kaua‘i High School and Kapa‘a High School ended in a tie at 326.
The tie gave each school 2.5 points, and following five rounds, Kaua‘i High School boys clinched the KIF golf championship with a 319.20 team stroke average and 13.5 points over Kapa‘a’s 330.60 team stroke average and 11.5 points.
The Raider girls had clinched their division title earlier in the season.
This Saturday, starting at 11:30 a.m., the KIF golf field tees off at Wailua for the first of two qualifying rounds for participation in the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state golf championships.
Mamaclay, after struggling through three rounds in the KIF season, jumped out of the doldrums to bang a 73 last week and repeated as the best of the boys with his even-par 72.
But even with the back-to-back top scores, Mamaclay ends the regular season in third overall with a 78.75 stroke average over four matches.
Top overall golfer goes to Pono Tokioka of Kaua‘i who was in Arizona, where he finished second in the Wigwam Resort tournament for his age group.
Tokioka finishes the KIF with a 76.25 stroke average over four matches for the top spot in the boys KIF.

Waimea’s Marius Foudila shot his season-best 87 to lead the Menehune, followed by Tresten Nakashima, also carding his season-best score at 91, a stroke better than Dylan Santos-Balisacan (92) and Ka‘imi Miyashiro (93).
Daniel Miller of Island School noted how windy the course was, but despite the challenge, carded his season-best score of 94 over the 18 holes at Kaua‘i Lagoons.
Kyle Groves of ‘Olelo Christian Academy finished the round at 90, dropping three strokes off his season-best 87 from last week.
