The Kaua‘i Community College front lawn in Puhi will spring to life with gardeners, suppliers, garden-lovers and consumers offering a variety of plants, landscape products and equipment. Hosted by Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau and University of Hawai‘i College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, the annual Kaua‘i Garden Fair is one of the largest gatherings of green thumbs on Kaua‘i. This one-day, free event begins with a “one-stop shop” for the garden, where a wide variety of tropical plants, flowers, produce and seeds will be available for purchase from farmers, nurseries and organizations around the island.

Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners Sean Na‘auao with Brother Noland and Kaua‘i band Namolokama will perform a benefit concert for the Island School ‘opio Class of 2011. Local icon and musical innovator Brother Noland has shaped contemporary music in Hawai‘i with his song-writing and performance style for the past three decades. His most critically acclaimed songs have launched new genres. The hit “Coconut Girl” crowned Noland with the title, “Father of Jawaiian Music.” A four-time Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner, Noland’s albums include “Hawaiian Man,” “Mystical Fish,” “Hawaiian Inside,” and a dozen more. Joining him is three-time Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner Sean Na’auao, founding member of the group Mana‘o Company.

Kaua‘i Museum offers rare movies once a month: shorts, home movies, professionally-made films. The movies are shown in DVD format on a television in the main gallery. The theme is Kaua‘i’s sugar industry and it is being co-sponsored by Grove Farm Museum. They are free, with any donations going towards maintenance and digitization of the film collections. A short discussion will follow each movie. No food or drinks are allowed in the museum. This month see Kaua‘i in the 1920s and 1930s.
