Hats off to all the athletic directors on a great spring-football weekend! It was one last time to harass Nicole Farr who’s going back to Virginia next week. Placido Valenciano said Liz Hubbard, Josie Pablo’s counterpart at the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital, is also from Virginia since he has relatives in that state. Nicole said when Lanaly Cabalo was here, she would always say she couldn’t figure out why all the Virginians come here since it’s so far away. But Lanaly’s gone, and after next week, we lose Nicole, too.
Kudos to Cory Gokan and his Lihu‘e Baseball League ‘ohana (they’re really tight-knit!) on hosting another very successful Da Bash. Herbie Kawamura was busy shooting from the sidelines and Michael Alonzo stopped his video long enough to scramble up the backstop and tap out the wedged foul ball after the coaches couldn’t do it.
Coach Teddy Perreira was busy helping at one of the food booths at the Kaua‘i Polynesian Festival, and more kudos to Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza and her sister Keala Senkus on doing a great job pulling everything together.
OK, time to roll out to the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery for the Memorial Day service…kudos to Marissa Sandblom and the Grove Farm ‘ohana for the 110 lei they sewed for the graves Friday!
