The Waimea High School softball team placed five members of its squad on the Division II all-tournament team, the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association announced, Sunday.
Taylor Ephan, the Menehune catcher was placed in the Utility slot while hurler Michelle Koerte got the nod as the all-tourney team pitcher.
Gaylan Matagiese, normally the centerfielder for Waimea, got the nod for the outfield while Tanisha DeFabian and Davelynn Tafiti were selected for the infield.
After trailing 5-0 in the Division II championship game against Pac-5, the Menehune coughed up four runs in the sixth and seventh innings in a 5-4 heartbreaker Friday night.
Pac-5, the Division II champions, placed Alena Ho‘okano and Aja Keyes in the infield of the all-tourney team, Kylee Yamamoto got the nod for the outfield, and Sheridan Mahelona was selected as the Most Outstanding Player.
Other players making the all-tourney Division II team include Ciara Balidoy (Waialua, Outfield), Kristi Belshe (Kalani, catcher) and Tiana Canaday (Waialua, DH).
Division I all-tourney team includes Nichole Arata (Campbell), Sharae Esprecion (Campbell), Mysha Sataraka (Punahou) and Courtney Senas (Mililani) in the infield.
Outfield include Colette Black (Campbell), Briann Silva-Kapihe (Campbell), and Sara Hiramatsu (Punahou).
Jasmine Ioane of Punahou got the nod as pitcher, Rebecca Lee of Mililani is the catcher, Leisha Li‘ili‘i of Castle is the designated hitter.
Kalena Lessary of Castle and Keiki Carlos of Mid Pacific Institute share the Utility spot with Katie Manuma of Campbell getting the Most Outstanding Player in Division I.
