LIHU‘E — Pono Tokioka shot a final-round 77 to finish the International Junior 2010 Bridgestone Golf Tournament of Champions in a tie for 14th place in Orlando, Fla., Monday.
Tokioka, of Puhi, a student at Kaua‘i High School, was the only Hawai‘i golfer participating in the tournament. Charles Cai of West Windsor, N.J., won the tournament with a four-under-par 210 over three rounds. Par for the course is 71.
Tokioka finished with an 11-over par 225 to tie with Nick Marotta of Monroe, N.Y., for 14th place. Marotta shot a 79 to Tokioka’s final-round 77 at the Grand Cypress Resort.
Tokioka carded rounds of 77, 71 and 77 over this three days of play, respectively.
Beth Tokioka, Pono’s mother, said the first round Saturday had to be stopped due to lightning.
When the stoppage occurred, Pono had played 10 holes.
“He played the remaining eight holes Sunday morning, then got through 14 holes (of the second round) before they had to stop again for lightning,” Beth Tokioka said in an e-mail.
