KAPA‘A — Nate Herbig came up with the big play for the Raiders, Saturday at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium.
Herbig notched three tackles for the Raiders defense. His stop of Kamuela Numazawa with Brayden Keoho-Apilado in the end zone gave the Raiders its edge in the 9-6 win.
Damien Butac broke open on a 31-yard scoring run in the opening quarter and a point-after run by Shawn Balai-Apilado put the Raiders up 7-0.
Keoho-Apilado and Herbig struck in the end zone in the second period for a safety that put the Raiders up 9-0 at the half of the Kaua‘i Youth Football 8-man tackle format game.
The Crusaders’ Keli‘i Efhan pushed for a one-yard score in the final period to prevent a shutout. The point-after attempt failed for the final 9-6 math.
Efhan topped all defenders with a dozen tackles followed by the Crusaders’ Branden Asuncion notching eight stops. Shaeden Tallano, Keli‘i Kelekoma each marked four stops with Numazawa and Mana Gorospe-Kaaihua getting a stop each.
