LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association’s 52nd Annual Baseball State Championships get underway today as Division I title seekers take the field, while Division II will begin Thursday.
The Waimea Menehune earned the No. 3 seed in the Div. II bracket after their 10-2 season in the KIF. They will take on Waipahu High School (10-3) at 11:30 a.m., Thursday.
Div. II games will be held at Hans L’Orange Field in Waipahu, O‘ahu. Div. I will be at Iron Maehara Stadium in Kahului, Maui.
Following the Waimea game, No. 2 seed St. Anthony (8-1) will face Konawaena (9-4) at 2 p.m. No. 4 Maryknoll (14-2) will then play Kamehameha-Hawai‘i (7-5) at 4:30 p.m., followed by top-seeded Radford (12-0) facing Hawai‘i Prep (10-3) at 7 p.m.
KQNG AM 570 will be covering the Waimea game.
Pearl City earned the No. 1 seed in Div. I, with St. Louis, Baldwin and Hilo taking two through four seeds, respectively.
This is the third year of the Division I and II state championship classification. However, this year’s Div. II field has been reduced from a four-day, 12-team bracket to a three-day, eight-team bracket.
Admission to all games is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.
OC16 will have live coverage of the Div. I semfinals on Friday at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. They will also have the Div. I championship, Saturday at 7 p.m.
