Catherine Parinas
Catherine “Cathy” Bunsaan Parinas of Waimea, Kaua‘i, died May 3, 2010, at Queen’s Medical Center at age 37. Born on Nov. 23, 1972, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was a certified nurse’s aide for Nursefinders.
She was preceded in death by her father Domingo Parinas.
She is survived by her son Austin Parinas-Kenney of Waimea; daughters Sheena Parinas of Waimea and Chalissah Parinas Kenney of Waimea; mother Amancia (Sonny Bacio) Bunsaan Parinas of Waimea; sisters Marcelina (Donato) Parinas of Kekaha and Josefina (Amancio) Johnson of California; life-long companion Jon Nakashima of Hanapepe; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing from 9 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 29, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha. Burial to follow; casual attire is suggested.

Albert Soares Sr.
Albert James Soares Sr. of Puhi died on May 20, 2010, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born in Kalaheo on Sept. 8, 1930, he retired as a self-employed contractor.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Antoinette Soares; parents Manuel and Shendrina; brothers Leroy, Wayne and Michael.
He is survived by his wife Marina Soares of Puhi; children Albert Soares Jr. of Lihu‘e, Gordon (Darlene) Soares Sr. of Kalaheo, Irene (Filipe) Tupou of Wailua, Cindy (Michael) Bandmann Sr. of Kapahi, Edward Soares Sr. of Kapa‘a; stepchildren Clarence (Joann) Sales of Puhi, Arnold Sales of Puhi, Mary Ann (Roger) Asuncion of Puhi and Mabelyn (Roland) Salcedo of Maui; sister Bessie Hendricks of Kapa‘a, Barbara Ebinger of Wailua and Diane Latu of Tonga; brother Ralley Ebinger of California; sister-in-law Justina Ruiz of Puhi and Gaudena (Domingo) Domincil of Honolulu; 20 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 8 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Thursday, May 26, at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Joseph Pasadava Sr.
Joseph “Uncle Joe” Ruiz Pasadava Sr. of Kilauea, Kaua‘i, died May 17, 2010, at his home. Born on Jan. 21, 1932, in Ko‘olau, Kaua‘i, he was a retired irrigation supervisor at Princeville Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife Lillian Pasadava; daughters Audris (Greg) Liljefors, Dierde “Didi” (Mike Woods) Keeney and Jessalee “Muff” Stanberry; sons Joseph Pasadava Jr., Chadwyn Pasadava, Kelvey (Kim) Pasadava and Maclin (Melissa) Pasadava; brother John Pasadava; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation on Saturday, May 29, Mass celebrated at 9 a.m., at Saint Sylvester’s Catholic Church.

Sherwood Conant Sr.
Sherwood Conant Sr. of Lihu‘e died May 20, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 89. He was born on Nov. 18, 1920, in Hilo.
He is survived by his wife Grace Conant; daughter Sharon Milford; sons Sherwood (Lili) Conant II and Shawn (Evelyn) Conant; brother John (Joan) Conant; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Celebration of life will be at a later date.

Delfin Viquelia
Delfin R. “Uncle Delfin” Viquelia of Hanapepe Heights died May 24, 2010, at Samuel Mahelona Hospital at age 88. Born on May 19, 1922, in Koloa, he was a stevedore/longshoreman for McCabe and Hamilton and Renny Co.
He was preceded in death by his wives Mary De La Cruz Viquelia and Marilyn Viquelia; son Rudy Viquelia; and daughter Veronica Shimatsu.
He is survived by his sons Tony (Patricia) Viquelia, Stanley (Alicia) Viquelia, Jerry (Nadine) Viquelia and Donald Viquelia; daughters Anita (Robert) Salvador, Geraldine (Elisio) Boloson, Debra (Charles) Zanders and Donna (Al) Joiner; sisters Bernadette (Lefty) Remata, Philomena (Robert) Harding; numerous nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at 9 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 3, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested.

Edward Valko
Edward Michael Lee Valko of Kapa‘a died May 24, 2010, at his home at age 62. Born on June 18, 1947, in Pennsylvania, he was a self employed CPA with EML Valko.
He was preceded in death by parents Edward Valko and Louise Reinhardt Valko.
He is survived by his wife Angelei Valko; son Winter Valko of Oregon; daughters Asylan Valko of Oregon and Becky Light of California; stepdaughters Tiffany Naihe and Sharece Hauge of Kapa‘a; stepsons Nicholas and James Hauge of Kapa‘a; and four grandchildren.
A celebration of life and spreading of ashes will be on June 18, near or on Kalapaki Beach. More details will be announced at a later date.

Melvin Corpuz
Melvin Corpuz of ‘Ele‘ele died May 21, 2010, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 65. Born on Nov. 14, 1944, in Hawai‘i, he was a heavy equipment operator engineer for Koga Construction Co.
He was preceded in death by his father Dionicio Corpuz and brother Ronald Corpuz.
He is survived by his wife La Verne Corpuz; sons Melvin Corpuz Jr. and Lance (Carl-lynn Keohokaui) Corpuz; mother Lorencia Corpuz; one granddaughter; brothers Clarence (Sharon) Corpuz and Milton Corpuz; sister Christine Pardua, Patricia (Thomas) Rivera and Paula (Harold) Rosa.
Visitation at 8:30 a.m., Mass at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 12, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.

Thomas Kiyoshi Akutagawa of Kapa‘a died May 22, 2010, at Garden Isle Health Care at age 90. Born on April 7, 1920, in Honolulu, he was a proprietor of Hawai‘i Venetian Blinds Company.
He is survived by his wife Helen Akutagawa; son Dennis (Susan) Akutagawa of Kapa‘a; daughter Celia (Kalvin) Lam of Honolulu; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Akutagawa of California; and sister Linda (Heeny) Yeun of Honolulu.
Private services were held.

Jaron Luis
Jaron Cadiz Luis of Lihu‘e died May 19, 2010, at his home at age 19. Born on May 12, 1991, in Lihu‘e he graduated from Kaua‘i High School Class of 2009.
He is survived by his parents Hilarion and Elena Luis of Lihu‘e; sister Jaylaneen Luis of Missouri; grandparents Mariano and Rosita Cadiz of Lihu‘e; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Elena Ansagay Suniga of Kapa‘a died May 21, 2010, at Garden Isle Health Care at age 83. Born on September 21, 1926, in Punene, Maui, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Constancio Suniga Sr.
She is survived by her sons Constancio (Corazon) Suniga Jr. of Kapa‘a, Rudy (Liza) Suniga of Wailua Houselots, Dioncio (Lisa) Suniga of Lihu‘e, Romeo (Clarita) Suniga of Hanama‘ulu and Billy (Barbara) Suniga of Alaska; daughters Betty (Rolly) Fernandez of Kapa‘a, Lilia (Rico) Cabaya of Hilo and Tess (Rolly) Ortal of O‘ahu; sister Juanita Miguel of Hilo; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
