KEKAHA — Kekaha faces a big game this afternoon starting at 4 p.m. when it hosts Hanapepe in a make-up game at the Kekaha Field.
Hanapepe swept its doubleheader against Kapa‘a, 15-0, 7-0 in the final scheduled games of the Protect Our Nation’s Youth baseball league, Sunday.
Lihu‘e eked out a 4-3 win against Kekaha, but the Kekaha Boyz charged back to capitalize on the Lihu‘e pitcher early in Game 2 en route to an 11-1 nightcap, which was shortened to five innings on the 10-run rule.
Following Sunday’s games, Lihu‘e continues to hold the lead in the win column, finishing the season 8-4.
Hanapepe, with its shutout over Kapa‘a, improves to a 7-2 record heading into this afternoon’s make-up game. A win would move it into first place with two to play.
Kekaha, despite its split against Lihu‘e, is in third place with a 6-3 record.
All three teams still have a shot at first place.
Kapa‘a closes out the season 0-12, Dondi Viquelia, the Kaua‘i PONY commissioner noting that despite the standings, Kapa‘a has played a strong season and showed much improvement since starting.
Following the outcome of this afternoon’s make-up game, both teams face a doubleheader make-up game, Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium.
First pitch of that double-header is at 10 a.m.
The single elimination tournament for the Kaua‘i Pony Baseball league will be played May 25-30.
